What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is computer generated method to move teeth in most directions previously only treated with fixed orthodontic appliances by wearing only a series of aligners. The aligners are worn for two weeks and then a new pair are worn for two and so on until the treatment is completed. The aligners are clear so most of the time no one realizes that there is anything happening at all.
How much does Invisalign cost?
Invislaign is costly to the doctor as the lab fees are a bit higher than traditional braces. However, there are advantages to the aligners in that they usually do not require emergency care, they are easy to dispense and the office visits can be spaced out further. Some doctors do not differentiate between braces and aligners. Some add an increase to their fees to cover the lab costs.
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign applies small forces to the teeth and moves them very little. After two weeks another aligner is worn which continues the movements dictated by the doctor. The forces usually dissapate within an hour or so after placing the aligners.
What are the primary benefits of Invisalign?
The benefits are a very invisible and comfortable appliance to treat tooth irregularity. There are some drawbacks to the appliance in that it cannot yet finish every case as well as traditional braces can. They are useful in more and more different types of bite irregularities as our experience increases.
What can be expected at my first Invisalign visit?
At the first Invisalign visit you will have records-x-rays, models and photograpghs- taken just like any other orthodontic patient. The first day you receive your Invisaligns is usually an easy appointment. The aligners are demonstrated and placed. You will be shown how to are for them and how to insert and remove them. You will then leave with your first aligners in and two or three more sets to wear progressively until your next appointment.
How long does Invisalign treatment take?
Treatment varies due to the different things we are trying to correct. I have had some last for longer than two years and a few six or so months. Everyone is different and every bite is different.
