1. Why should I choose Invisalign over the traditional choice of braces?
Traditional "metal" braces are the standard of the dental industry, but clear braces (clear plastic aligners) are becoming more and more common. Invisalign is one of a few manufacturers of " clear braces.” Most of the time, you will have a choice between using a clear plastic aligner, or traditional metal braces. There are several advantages to the clear braces like invisalign, such as comfort, cosmetic appeal, and easy cleaning of both the clear braces and the teeth that you are moving.
2. Where is Invisalign available?
Invisalign is available at many dental offices, including both general dentists as well as orthodontic offices.
3. I am currently wearing braces. Can I make the switch to Invisalign?
If you currently wear traditional braces, switching to the clear plastic aligners will be dependent on how long you have been wearing your current braces, your age, as well as what you want the end result to look like. It really depends on your situation, the reasons you want to switch, and cost.
The success of your clear braces are dependent on how faithful you are in wearing your clear braces 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the only exception is they need to be removed before eating any food.
4. Can I go to any dentist to be treated with Invisalign?
It is prudent to ask your dentist if they provide this service, as many general dentists have been trained to provide this great service. If they do not, it is a good chance they will have someone to refer you to.
5. How will Invisalign effectively move my teeth?
The clear braces are very effective in moving teeth, and can actually move teeth faster than metal braces in some cases.
6. What is the minimum age of a patient that a doctor can treat with Invisalign?
The minimum age to have clear braces is around 14 years old. We really look at the age of the mouth, not the person. Basically we are looking for all primary (baby) teeth to be lost, and all of the molars to be present, (except third molars or wisdom teeth ). Again, this decision is made on a case by case basis.
